In 2015 I worked with Dans och Cirkushögskolan (part of Stockholm University of the Arts), and the circus author and organiser Duncan Wall, to design and conduct DOCH’s first online course dedicated to circus history and theory, An Introduction to Contemporary Circus.
Intended for students, artists, teachers and researchers, the course incorporated text, video, interactive media, artist interviews, and performance extracts to animate essential questions about circus’ history, training methods and artistic processes. Connecting circus to other disciplines and practices, as well as to social and political contexts, it aimed to protect an open view of the form and to instil a questioning, reflective attitude in students as they thought and talked about the contemporary art.
The course ran during the autumn of 2015 and was available to all EU citizens. To learn more about its aims, see the interview published on the website Ausform.
